It’s time we wake up! I have heard too many friends saying we cannot leave Asia because of the infrastructure that we have created and the staffing that we have in place to support importing. The supply-chain debacle is another classic example of brands trying to produce product at a price point to increase the corporate profit and impact their bottom line. The obvious option is to look at manufacturing to the United States. Footwear, apparel, and hosiery could be the easiest option to immediately impact your bottom line and save your customers. The United States government has been sourcing these categories for over 30 years using domestic manufacturing. The American brands that attach themselves to these manufacturers will be the winner in the long run. The quality standards of the United States government and military far exceed any of the current standards used in any other country. Even in your own factories abroad, your internal audit does not come close to what the military requires for product being domestically made. It’s time you wake up and look in your own backyard for the salvation of this supply-chain dilemma. With the increase of fuel, container costs, transportation and trucking, labor shortage, mandates, and all the other things we’ve seen happen in the last two years, it’s logical to look for relief in your own backyard.
