Baby Boomers have one lesson to learn, and that is to remember the first thing you ever heard from your mother was, “No!”.   Because we were the privileged children, and we were the first generation to get whatever we wanted, the word “No!”; usually meant that we just stopped listening. Now that we are the older generation, we suffer from our inability to remember how to listen, and with maturity we now must learn to do the opposite and listen. We can always use the excuse we are hard of hearing when asking someone to repeat themselves; but, it also is an important way to think strategically. The ability to listen and to diplomatically question is something that an older generation must capitalize on. In the job search, control your ego, listen to what is said and watch what is not spoken. Listening and giving feedback can be the difference between being rejected or being hired.
